Frequently Asked Questions

All of the commonly asked questions answered here.

Due to the nature of the process- our oils are hand made in batches and therefore there can be slight differences between each batch. This can all sorts from the affect and the smell to the taste, colour and consistency of the oils. However, we test all of our batches to ensure that they provide the correct amount of CBD as printed on the packaging. Therefore, any differences between the batches should not cause any concern.

Due to the Government not recognizing cannabis as having any medicinal value- we are categorically not allowed to make any recommendations. If we do, the MHRA and other agencies could consider this as making a claim about our oil as treatment, therefore promoting it as medicine- which is illegal and if found to be breaking these rules, we as a company could be shut down.
The other reason we cannot make recommendations is that we just don’t know. Everybody has an endocannabinoid system, which is the system that directly interacts with the compounds in cannabis. We as humans, have different lifestyles and interactions and as such our bodies will respond differently to the individual extracts- which means what is good for one, may not be good for another. For example, two people with the same condition on paper may respond differently to the exact same extract. This is why we offer a range of extracts in the hope that when you choose our oils, you will be able to find the best to suit you as an individual.

We offer three main types of extract, each sourced from a different category of Cannabis plant- Indica, Sativa and Hybrids (the latter, a combination of Sativa & Indica). These extracts are all full plant extracts, each offering a different cannabinoid and terpene profile. There are lots of independent groups on Facebook who would be happy for you to contact them for advice, one such group is Herbal Alternatives where users are able to more openly discuss their own personal experiences.

We have many companies who wholesale for us. If this is something you are interested in, please email our wholesale team for more information via wholesale@theoriginalalternative.gg.

The two major categories of cannabis plants are Indica and Sativa and these can then be cross-bred to create a third Hybrid category. Within these categories there are thousands of variations much like the grapes used to make wine. Each of the two main cultivars have different ratios of cannabinoids & terpenes – the naturally occurring chemical compounds that develop as the plant grows, which in turn results in their own range of effects on the body and mind, resulting in a wide range of benefits. Indica strains generally provide a sense of deep body relaxation. Sativa strains tend to provide a more energising experience.

We use 4 different extracts grown by licensed growers, in different conditions to make our products.

Grown outside under the sun we have 2 Sativa extracts, the Green Edition which is a Cannabis Sativa and the Blue and Aqua Plus Editions which are a Hemp Sativa. We also have Cannabis Indica dominant hybrid in the Purple Edition, grown on farms in Holland, which contains 70% Indica and 30% Sativa.

Then we have our original Silver, White, Red and Black editions, these all use the same Cannabis Indica extract diluted to 4 different concentrations, this strain is grown under lights in a controlled environment for maximum cannabinoid content and yield, the cost of production is much higher and for this reason the price too, a percentage of the sales from these editions goes toward our companion program.

Our Gold Edition oil is a Cannabis Sativa dominant hybrid containing Sativa and hand pressed Cannabis Indica rosin, grown in our 2 acre greenhouse in Guernsey.  Which is a controlled environment to maximise cannabinoid content and to ensure our extracts are of the highest quality.

Sadly, we are unable to offer any advice on the use of our oils for cancer treatment, this is because they are not sold or made as cancer treatments. The Government has a very specific piece of legislation called the ‘1939 Cancer act’ which prohibits any discussion around the use of any treatment that is not state approved. We understand that people will want to do whatever they can to try and beat cancer and the movement around ‘cannabis kills cancer’ is, we are afraid, not strictly true. It is a useful tool but should not be considered under any circumstances as a one stop cure.

Again, due to the way people interact with the extracts it is difficult to offer advice so we generally suggest that people start slow and build up.

Oil – 2-3 drops for 10 to 14 days then adding another drop to your routine until you find a level that helps.

Capsules – Always start with a low dose, 50mg, and work your way up.  Do this for a further 5 days and increase if need be.

Whole Plant Extract (Paste) – We would suggest that you use an amount the size of a grain of rice (1 – 2 per dosing) and rub it into your gum, this will allow the cannabinoids to be absorbed into the system. This can be done at any time of day either before or after eating.

These methods will allow the cannabinoids to be absorbed into the system. This can be done at any time of day either before or after eating. Please allow 2 hours between taking pharmaceutical medication and our products.

Yes, due to the nature of the extract all cannabis and hemp based extracts will contain trace amounts of THC. There is an unwritten rule that an amount up to 0.2% is acceptable in the product. However, the Home Office will say that the extract must contain no THC whatsoever but as this is unworkable, and also in such small amounts that it will not have any psychoactive effects.  All our oils contain trace amounts which can be found on the certificates of analysis which can be found on our website.

Yes we can take orders over the phone, 01359 242589, we accept all major credit and debit cards except American Express.  Our friendly team will accept your orders Monday to Friday 9.30 am to 4.00 pm.

CBD is generally not a controlled substance so in most cases, however, due to the nature of the product some countries’ border forces may consider it to be cannabis oil and, as such seize the product and or you and ruin your holiday, so we advise against it.

Payments can be made via credit or debit card.  Card details are never stored on our server.  Checkout is secure and provided by our partners at Zion Payments.

Please ensure that the oil is kept upright at all times, in a cool dark place when not in use. A cupboard or shelf should be fine.

Unfortunately this is due to the varying nature of a biological product- sometimes the oil can be quite thick after mixing. If the environment is cool or it has been posted during the winter season, this may cause the oil to be too thick for the dropper. To fix this, please just pop the bottle in a cup of warm water for around 3 minutes until it softens up.  If after doing so the issue still persists, please don’t hesitate to get back in contact with us.

Unfortunately, because we suspend our extract in a cold pressed hemp seed carrying oil- if you get some onto the thread of the bottle, it can act like a lubricant and undo the bottle top. To stop this happening, we recommend that you clean it thoroughly, both on the bottle thread and on the lid. Also, the bottle should always be kept stored upright once opened.

All mammals have an endocannabinoid system and as such, giving them cannabinoids should help promote wellbeing. HOWEVER, the Vets Association are (quite rightly) very protective about what we can say about treatment

If you’re unsure which product to choose, then you can either take a look at our website for more information or join an independent consumer group on Facebook group such as Herbal Pets UK/EU, as users, or more accurately- the user’s humans can openly talk about which products they find useful.

The FSA have advised that consumers who take prescribed medication should not take CBD without discussing this with a medical practitioner.

However, for our customers that are already consuming CBD and feel that they wish to continue taking CBD with their prescribed medication it is a personal choice as the FSA are only issuing guidelines.

Please be aware that all of our products do contain trace levels of THC and therefore could show as positive on a road side or employer drug test. Upon a urine or blood test it should be apparent that there are high levels of CBD not THC however this would depend on the quality of the testing equipment being used and therefore if you feel this could in anyway effect your ability to pass a drug test or jeopardise your employment you should either discuss the matter with your employer or not take the products. The Original Alternative can not be held liable in the event of individuals failing a drugs tests.
